A thoughtful roundup of clean, faith-friendly movies that entertain without compromising biblical values. From inspiring true stories to modern retellings of Scripture, this list highlights uplifting films the whole family can enjoy with wisdom and discernment.

As the years go by, it seems Hollywood is pumping out more and more profanity-riddled, lust-smothered, and thoroughly ungodly films.
PG-13? Yea, right! Not with all that cussing, violence, and sexually-suggestive content!
Family friendly? I’d cringe watching most of these movies alone, far less with my family present!
So, in no particular order, here are my recommended movies that I’ve found to be clean, and yet entertaining with some having biblical roots or overall positive morals:
A 2022 film that takes the biblical story of Hosea and adds a romance spin to it. Although it’s rated as PG-13, it contains some sexual content (both healthy and unhealthy) which I wouldn’t slap a general PG-13 rating on. I’d say watch it first to make a sound decision with discernment and wisdom to determine if this is something a minor would benefit from viewing.
A 2025 romance film that’s inspired by the Book of Ruth with a modern American spin. There were some scenes with women in revealing clothing, however it was evident that the film makers attempted to somewhat censor certain body parts with camera angles, etc. It’s rated TV-14, and I think that rating is on par for the content. The storyline does deviate from the true biblical account so I recommend reading the Book of Ruth again before watching so that you can have open dialogue with the fam after seeing this movie.
A 2025 drama film based on a true story, this movie is absolutely family-friendly and depicts an amazing testimony of young Sarah Rector–faith, trials, and triumph. This movie will ignite your faith and remind you of the goodness of God!
A 2019 drama film based on the life of William Kamkwamba when he was 13 years old living in Malawi during a tough economic time. Another great family-friendly movie that will inspire you to persevere no matter what life throws at you. My one gripe about this movie is that it diluted his testimony by barely touching on his and his family’s faith in God (Yahweh) which was the foundation of their success. Nevertheless, I still recommend it, and recommend doing a deeper dive into his life to learn about what this movie did not portray.
A 2006 drama film that portrays the life of English writer and illustrator, Beatrix Potter. With a bit of romance, this movie is not faith-based and does have some unbiblical dialogue regarding marriage. However, it is a clean, family-friendly, biographical piece that reminds us of the uncertainty of life and the impact it can have on others.
Although it seems that clean, entertaining movies/shows that don't dishonor God are becoming few and far in between, there is still an increase in faith-based entertainment that I believe the Lord will continue to supply. I’ll aim to update this list as I come across others that can make the cut for this list. Happy watching!
